Senior Mainframe Developer

My client is currently looking to hire an experienced Mainframe Developer to join their team. You’ll build innovative solutions using Cobol, CICS and DB2. The Role,

The Mainframe Developer will be responsible for the development, maintenance, and support of a suite of applications for a multinational customer who is embarking on a mainframe modernisation and DevOps journey.  You’ll be part of a team who will work closely with many stakeholders to provide and implement quality solutions for varied banking requirements and growth initiatives.

Responsibilities:

Resolve a variety of high-impact problems/ projects through in-depth evaluation of complex business and system processes. Partner with multiple teams to identify and define necessary system enhancements to deploy new products and process improvements.

Develop comprehensive knowledge of how areas of the business, such as architecture and infrastructure, integrate to accomplish business goals. Provide in-depth analysis with interpretive thinking to define issues and develop innovative solutions.

Appropriately assess risk when business and technology decisions are made. Provide your expertise and advanced knowledge of application programming, ensuring that solution designs and implementations adhere to engineering best practices and overall architectural blueprint. Also, advisor or coach to mid-level developers and analysts involving the peer review and allocation of work as necessary.

Skills Needed

COBOL, CICS, JCL development experience. Experience with Database(s): DB2, SQL, VSAM, IMS.

Messaging: MQ, Web Services – IIB, z/OS Connect. Job Scheduler: Zeke, TWS (Tivoli). IDE: IBM IDz. Version Control: LCM, Bitbucket/Git. Process: JIRA, Service Now.

Special working conditions (travel, on call etc): There may be an initial (2-3 months) requirement to align initial working hours with client working hours – 8:00am to 4:00pm GMT (TBC). On call may be a requirement on a rotational basis.
